Javea – An Emerald in The Med
Javea is a coastal town, in the province of Alicante. It sits behind a bay between two rocky headlands, Cabo San Antonio and Cabo La Nao. Surrounded by orange, lemon and olive groves. The Port: popular with tourists due to its bars, restaurants, safe gravel beach and marina. The first jetty was built in 1871 and was important in the export of raisins. When the raisin trade collapsed at the end of the 19th century it became a fishing harbour which is how it remains today. There is also the landmark church “Nuestra Señora de Loreto” built in 1967, in the shape of a fishing boat going through the waves.
The Arenal:a wide beach of white sand with a promenade, bars and restaurants. There is an outdoor craft market during the summer as well as sand artists and street entertainers. There is also a Parador Hotel behind which once stood the “Punta del Arenal” a Roman settlement. On the other end of the bay once stood the Fontana Castle whose canons can still be seen outside the Sant Bartolome church in the old town.
Market day is on Thursday except when it is a bank holiday. There are three local fiestas, San Juan in June, Moors and Christians in July and Nuestra Señora de Loreto in September.
There is a large range of rental centres and shops catering to a wide range of activities including cycling, diving, fishing, golf, horse riding, sailing and hiking.

Looking At The Issue Of The Bills Of Exchange
The discount houses got their name because they discount bills of exchange: they buy them at a discount to their face value. To see how this market works we need to examine the mechanism more closely.
Bills of exchange are a form of short-term IOU widely used to finance trade and provide credit, the work like this Company A sells Lim worth of goods to Company B. It ‘draws’ a bill of exchange for Lim which it sends to Company B. This bill is an acknowledgement by Company B that it owes the Lim, and Company B signs it to show that it accepts the debt. So if the bill is due for payment in, say, three months, the buyer might pay only £97.50 for every £100 of face value. The buyer is thus getting a profit of £2.50 per £100 when the bill is repaid at face value, which is equivalent to receiving interest: the discount is usually expressed as an annual rate of interest. When the Bank of England is said to have bought bills at 10/4 per cent, it means that the Bank bought them at a discount to their face value. Thus if interest rates generally come down, the prices of bills will rise. This is why discount houses may be reluctant to sell them when they think interest rates should come down.
The bill described above is a trade bill, issued by one company to another. But a bill may be accepted by a bank, in which case it becomes a bank bill. By putting its name on the bill, the bank agrees it will pay the amount of the bill on maturity, even if the company which acknowledged the debt should default: it is therefore a form of guarantee. Accepting bills in this way was an important part of the business of the merchant banks in the past, hence the term accepting houses which used to be used for the top-tier merchant banks. A bill accepted by a bank, because of the security it offers, sells at the very lowest interest rates. Any monetary sector institution can accept bills, but the Bank of England only buys or lends against bills accepted by eligible banks, hence the term eligible bills. The Bank maintains a published list of eligible banks; in general these are banks which have a substantial and broadly-based sterling acceptance business.
Bank bills also provide a substitute for overdrafts in big company financing. A company arranges an acceptance credit with a bank, which allows it to issue bills up to an agreed limit. Each bill is accepted by the bank in return for a fee and can be sold at a discount to raise cash for the company. The effective rate of interest may be lower than on other forms of borrowing.

History of the IQ test
Introduction
The prominent French psychologist, Alfred Binet, first developed the IQ test in response to France becoming a country with education for all children. Before, the only school children were the offspring of the well-to-do. France was now faced with the challenge of educating the masses, and they needed a way to separate those who needed special help from those who were average, and from those who were advanced. At the request of the French government, Binet and a colleague, Theodore Simon, took on the task of developing a test to measure the intelligence and potential of each child. Binet and Simon published their first test in 1905. Revisions to this test followed in 1908 and 1911.
The Early Standards
Through observations made during these early tests, they created the concept of mental age, which was:
* If a 10-year-old child succeeded on the items appropriate for 10-year-olds but could not pass the questions appropriate for 11-year-olds, that child was said to have a mental age of 10.
* Mental age did not necessarily correspond with chronological age. For example, if a 6-year-old child succeeded on the items intended for 9-year-olds, then that child was said to have a mental age of 9.
IQ Testing in USA
Henry Goddard, director of a New Jersey school for children with mental retardation, first brought the concept of IQ testing to the United States for use in testing people for mental retardation, also in the early 1900s. A Stanford psychologist, Lewis Terman, revised the test to expand its usability by adding questions appropriate for adults, and establishing new standards for average performance at each age. Terman’s first standardized test, published in 1916, was called the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale. Terman also changed the concept of a mental age into a standardized IQ score, which is the approach still used today.
IQ Tests Today
The history of IQ testing continues to the modern day, where the most widely used modern tests of intelligence are the Stanford-Binet, the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC), the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS), and the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (Kaufman-ABC). Each of these tests have a series of 10 or more subtests or sections of the main test in which all of the items are similar. Examples of subtests include vocabulary (“Define gregarious”), similarities, repeating digit strings of increasing length from memory, information processing, object assembly (putting together puzzles), mazes (tracing a path through a maze), and simple math problems.

The Truth About Senate Bill 306
Apparently, there’ some major confusion about Senate Bill 306 floating around out there!
Approved by the Governor in August, the bill–which contains several changes to real estate-related laws and is set to come into effect on the first of next year–has been misrepresented by some as–among other things–a piece of legislation that will institute a 21-day deadline for short sale approvals. However, this is not the case.
What the bill actually does is require lenders to respond to a request for a short-pay demand statement within 21 days after the approval has been granted–not to approve the sale within 21 days. And, even at that point, the lender still has the option to respond–in writing, of course–that they have decided not to move forward with the proposed transaction.
Another article of the bill that may be causing confusion is the one that states that lenders must approve short sale closing statements within four days or else the statement will be deemed approved as long as it isn’t in obvious conflict with the terms of the short-pay agreement or demand statement given to the escrow holder. What it does not say, however–as some seem to think–is that the lender is bound to a short payoff amount on an offer the lender has not approved.
The bill does make a couple of pretty noteworthy changes, though. The current requirement that lenders contact certain borrowers to discuss options for avoiding foreclosure at least 30 days prior to filing a notice of default has been expanded to include owner-occupied residential property with two-to-four dwelling units as well as owner-occupied residences, and the requirement that lenders record a notice of sale 14 days prior to a trustee’s sale has been extended to 20 days (though it does not change the existing requirement that lenders wait at least 20 days after mailing a notice before conducting the sale).
So, if we all spread the word, hopefully the confusion will be cleared up by the time the law goes into effect on January 1!
