Selecting the right size Chandelier for my room

By On January 31, 2010 No Comments

Chandeliers are one of the most beautiful ligting fixtures for the house. However, too large of a fixture will overpower the space. On the other end, too small will look out of place.

First choose the fixture, then you can decorate further with accent lights. Table lamps add a soft touch to any room.
A chandelier should be approximately half the width of your table. It should be hung with the bottom of the fixture 30 to 32 inches above the tabletop for an 8 feet ceiling. Go up 3 inches for each additional foot of ceiling.

If you put a chandelier in the middle of the room, it definitely defines the space.

How do I determine the proper size chandelier for a foyer?

If your foyer is 12 by 18 feet, with a ceiling height of 16 foot or higher, the correct sizing for your chandelier would be 1/3 of the width of this space. For example, if your room width is 12 feet, your fixture width will be 4 feet.

What is the proper amount of spacing used for wall sconces?

Sconces should be spaced 8 to 10 feet apart from each other & should be approximately 60 inches from the floor. Click here to view our great selection of contemporary table lamps.

BT Makes Business Calls to 0870 and 0845 Numbers Free

By On January 19, 2010 No Comments

On 26th October 2009, BT unveiled a new calling plan that gives UK businesses unlimited calls to 0870 and 0845 numbers for a monthly fee.

The move comes less than a year after the telecoms firms made these numbers free to call for its home customers who are on their Anytime/Evening & Weekend call plans.

This recent development is great news for companies with 0845 numbers (in particular business to business (B2B) firms) as it means they are likely to see an increase in the amount of calls they receive – therefore boosting their sales and enquiries – ever more crucial in the current economic climate.

Thousands of UK businesses use 0845 numbers because they offer them a host of advantages over normal landline numbers:

1) 0845 numbers (like all non-geographic numbers) don’t have traditional area codes. This is ideal for businesses who don’t want to be tied to a specific location as it means they’ll appear like a nationwide company and receive calls from across the UK – particularly handy for companies that promote their number on their website.

2) 0845 numbers are simply pointed at any landline or mobile of your choice. They work alongside these numbers and do not replace them. This also means that no additional hardware or equipment is required for them to work.

3) 0845 numbers can be diverted to a new landline or mobile instantly. This can be done online or over the phone and is ideal for companies when they relocate as it means they don’t miss any calls.

4) Companies with 0845 numbers can gauge the success of their marketing and advertising by viewing online call statistics. Such call stats can determine missed calls, busy periods and the geographic location of callers. This info can also be used to ensure that staffing levels are correct.

5) By using 0845 numbers, firms can take advantage of online call management systems that can help them smarten up the way they deal with their calls. Caller options menus are popular (e.g. press 1 for sales, 2 if you’re an existing customer etc.) as are intro messages (e.g. Thanks for calling Company ABC etc.)

6) Companies can handpick an unforgettable 0845 number that their callers will remember without having to look it up. Their 0845 number can even reflect the service they offer. For example, a company with a 24 hour emergency helpline could ensure that there is ‘999′ within their number.

7) 0845 numbers are inexpensive for businesses to run. If firms are smart they can find a top 0845 number provider that offers unlimited inbound minutes to their number for a small monthly fee.

BT’s news will inevitably cement the popularity of 0845 numbers in the UK. However, for businesses wanting to offer their landline AND mobile callers great value then 03 numbers reign supreme.

All You Need to Know About Self Storage

By On December 7, 2009 No Comments

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Renting Storage Containers

Do you need extra space storage for your things? You actually have an option to sell some of your things to fit everything in your new home. But then if you still need these items or if they have sentimental value to you, you would also want to keep them.

Why You Need to Rent Extra Storage

s. You could, of course, invest on a bigger house. But if you cannot afford it at the moment you have no choice but to put your things in a storage facility for the meantime. If you only need the extra space in a short period of time, it’s more cost effective to rent storage instead.

Considering Accessibility

Moving your belongings to storage facilities does not stop you from accessing tghem. Just go to the facility and open up the storage container to get or check some of your things. Of course, you have to carefully choose the location of the storage facility to assure you that it will be easier to access your things. This would also lessen your expenses on fuel.

However, many people don’t want to part with their precious possessions. This could be a subject when renting storage elsewhere. The good things is that you now have the ability to request that the storage unit be placed near your place. With the availability of portable storage containers, you can get access to your things right at your doorstep.

The Importance of Security

Of course, nothing compares to the security of having your belongings inside your home. But then, securing them would be your responsibility. On the other hand, keeping your things in the storage facilities become the company’s obligation. Many storage facilities have security and anti-burglar systems so you are more or less assured that nothing will happen to your things.

Storage containers are also usually made of durable materials like steel and iron so they are weather resistant. Your belongings will surely be safe from the snow or even the rains. And more importantly they would be securely locked inside as well.

How Much Does It Cost?

Renting storage containers have been very economical because of the tight competition in the market today. Remember to get the right amount of space so you will not pay extra costs for the extra space storage. Compare and review the rates to make sure you are getting the best deal. Of course, the price is not the sole criterion when picking the storage unit to rent. Always consider with the three options: accessibility, convenience and security.

Yes, there would be extra costs but renting storage could also be the most cost effective option for you. Just review your needs and calculate the expenses to be sure it’s really what you need.

5 Must Know Facts About Cord Stem Cell Banking

By On December 2, 2009 No Comments

The umbilical cord is the main source for stem cells. You’ve probably heard by now about stem cells and why you should be keeping them safe for your child. Do you really, really need it? And if you do, what else do you need to think about before deciding on a bank? Not only will you get details on cord stem cell banking, but all the info you’ll need to consider before choosing a bank.

The stem cells pros first

· It’s simple really. By banking your stem cells, you are actually providing yourself with better alternatives in the future to fight against diseases or health conditions. Stem cells can provide your children with healthy cells to help treat against life threatening diseases. Even hard to treat diseases such as leukemia, spinal cord injuries and heart diseases can be treated through stem cell transplants.

· Cord stem cell banking does not involve any injury or pain to the mother or the child. Since the cells are sourced at the umbilical cord that is thrown away after the birth, there is no pain involved.

· Cord stem cell banking is very helpful when you need transplants for the parents or for a sibling also. Patients who requires bone marrow transplant faces plenty of risks. There is a chance that the body may reject the transplant. It’s rare for a stem cell to be rejected. It can be used in the treatment of diseases like leukemia, brain tumors, cell disorders and congenital disturbances of the immune system.

And now the cons

· Of course, if there are no cases of genetically transmitted diseases in your family, you will not stand to gain a lot from cord stem cell banking.

· It doesn’t come cheap. Expect to pay at least $2000 at first and then around a $100 a year for maintenance. If you do not really run a risk of a genetic disease, these are costs you need not bear!

How do I choose a Cord stem cell banking facility?

It’s very simple. Once you have decided on banking the stem cells, ask yourself these questions:

· Would you like to go for public banking or a private facility?

· Is the bank stable?

· Check how big the facility is – facilities that handles large numbers of samples are more likely to have better procedures and infrastructure to handle the cells.

· Can you choose a different facility later?

· What are the costs involved? What are the up front fees as well as the yearly maintenance cost? Are those affordable?

· How will these costs affect your savings in the long run? Whether these costs are fixed or subject to change?

· Will you need to compromise on anything in order to ensure cord stem cell banking?

It may not be an easy decision to go for cord stem cell banking, but it is an important one. Consider all the factors before you decide on what is right for you.

5 GOOD REASONS A SELF-EMPLOYED PROFESSIONAL SHOULD TAKE VACATION

By On December 2, 2009 No Comments

So you think you’re not justified in taking time away from your business because you’re self-employed? Here are five great reasons why you should definitely take a vacation:

1. Physical down time
You work hard to grow and maintain your business. Trying to be superhuman will certainly take its toll if you allow it to. Give your body a break by taking in some R&R.

2. Mental down time
Your days are filled with busy, sometimes even hectic, day-to-day activities related to your business. If you don’t allow yourself to get away from it once in a while, your peace of mind and general well-being will most definitely suffer. Get out and play. Your mind will thank you!

3. Spend time with loved ones
Your family and friends see you working, working, working, sometimes rarely coming up for air. Both you and they will appreciate spending some quality time together.

4. See the world (or your own back yard)
The important thing is to do something you enjoy, whether it’s traveling or, if that’s not your cup of tea or you don’t have the budget for it, spend time at home. If you also work out of your home, this could be challenging. The key is to stay out of your office during your vacation time. Try getting creative with this. Make your office “off limits” by closing the door and placing a sign on it. Do whatever it takes to keep your mind off working. How about a hobby or a day trip to the beach? Think of what you can do within your budget that’s fun. Or do nothing at all!

5. You have a life
Although this one is a no-brainer, it surprises me how many small business owners don’t feel as if they deserve time off. There is too much to do, and not enough hours in the day to get it all done. Well, I’ve got news for you. It’s always going to feel that way! Only you have the power to allow yourself time off. Even if you prefer only to take a day here and a day there instead of a week-long (or longer) vacation each year, that’s a whole lot better than never taking time off. Trust me, you’ll feel better about yourself and your work if you take regular vacation time. You’ll be healthier, too!

Great Personal Trainer Frisco Texas

By On November 27, 2009 No Comments

My personal trainer Frisco has helped me stop making empty promises to myself. Over the years I have made multiple attempts to stick with an exercise regimen. I constantly promised myself, ‘today is the day’, but for some reason, I just couldn’t keep that promise. A friend of mine told me about Lady Trainers To Go and their Frisco personal trainers. After looking into them myself, I figured that it was worth a shot.

Fortunately, it turned out to be exactly what I needed! My personal trainer in Frisco is amazing. First of all, I love that my trainer is a female. This makes me feel much more comfortable exercising, then I would be if working out with a male trainer.

Secondly, I love that my Frisco personal trainer comes to work out with me in the comfort and privacy of my own home. I’ve been a member of gyms before, but to be honest, I’m just not a fan. I would much rather exercise in a familiar place and having a personal trainer in Frisco allows me to do exactly that. She literally brings the gym to me. If I need any equipment, she brings it. In most cases though, it’s not needed.

My trainer is both knowledgeable and creative, which keeps my workouts interesting. I love that I never get bored with my exercise regimens. I’ve learned so much since working out with my trainer. I think it’s a wonderful way for anyone to get in shape. I highly recommend Lady Trainers To Go.
